Piet is an international lawyer with more than 23 years’ experience, the last 20 of which spent advising in the renewable energy sector in Spain. He is a member of the board of the section of International and European Law of the Barcelona Bar Asociation since 2017, and external university teacher at the CITCE-UPC.
Born in the Netherlands in 1971, in 1975 moved to the United Kingdom for a brief stay. Moved to Germany in 1976, did abitur in 1991, moved in that same year to the Netherlands to study international Law in Groningen. Worked for several years in Amsterdam, finally moved to current residence in Spain in 2000.
After more than 7 years defending the interests of thousands of renewable energy producers against the cutbacks introduced by successive national governments, he became an opinion leader in the Spanish energy sector, participating in the public debate via numerous publications at energiasrenovables.com; 20minutos.com; energynews.com and movilidadelectrica.com.
He has defended and promoted petitions regarding self-consumption and the payment system for renewable energies before the Petitions Commission at the European Parliament. In 2015, his firm was awarded the Eurosolar Prize in 2015 for its untiring defense of renewable energies.
